Description

LAGOM - Sunset Retreat

Hip mid-century modern meets rustic log cabin with stunning lakefront views, private hot tub, home theater, Lake Michigan beach access, and more!

There is a unique Swedish and Norwegian term - lagom (LAH-gum) - that is the inspiration behind the name of this special property along the bucolic shores of Lake Michigan. It describes an ethereal way of life that is “just the right amount,” “in balance,” and “perfect-simple.” It also explains the harmonious state of mind you and your guests will experience at this one-of-a-kind, meticulously renovated log cabin with a cool, modern Scandinavian vibe—no matter the season.

The first thing you’ll notice is the trendy interior which has been lovingly and thoughtfully remodeled from top to bottom (2020) with the enjoyment of you and your guests as a top priority: fresh new carpet, paint, and custom wallpaper; a finished lower level with a spacious home theater; and an upgraded chef’s kitchen with quartz countertops, a cozy coffee corner, and a full-size dishwasher to make cleanup a breeze.

The kitchen-adjacent dining area features a large table that comfortably seats eight and encourages daily communal meals. Flow easily into the cozy living room where you will adore the two-story soaring ceilings, curl up with a good book next to the wood-burning fireplace, or simply sit back and relax in the hanging chair.

When it’s time to retreat for the evening, the main level has a convenient queen bedroom and full bathroom perfect for those who rather not do stairs. Otherwise, head upstairs to the lofted master bedroom. This space overlooks the living room below but still provides a sanctuary away from it all. The electric fireplace is perfect for creating ambiance and the hammock is the ideal place for an afternoon nap. The upper level also has a queen guest room with an electric fireplace and a full bathroom.

The finished lower level is an ideal hideaway. Relax and enjoy the latest movie or catch the big game in the comfortable home theatre complete with a Roku setup allowing you to sign into a variety of your favorite streaming services.

The outside space at Lagom is a true gem. Take in Mother Nature’s expansive, breathtaking sunsets and sunrises while you soak away your worries in your own private hot tub on the covered back porch. Once you’re completely relaxed, saunter down to the blufftop fire pit to gather with your loved ones, roast s’mores, and clink glasses while watching the lightning bugs, snowflakes, or fall leaves float by as if in slow motion.

If Lake Michigan is calling your name, the association access point is directly next door. Descend the steps to the sugar sand beach where you can stroll for miles along the coast, take a dip in the refreshing water, or squish your toes in the sand while you sit and meditate.

After you’ve worked up a healthy appetite, head back home to prepare a hearty lunch to enjoy on the spacious bluffside deck overlooking Lake Michigan in all her greatness.

Now that you’ve explored the immediate grounds of Lagom, venture out with a quick drive to Saugatuck, Douglas, South Haven, or Holland. These charming cities are all located within a 30-minute drive and provide the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal at one of the popular restaurants, imbibe at a local winery or brewery, shop amongst the eclectic boutiques and art galleries, hunt for treasurers at the many antique shops and roadside farm stands, attend a seasonal event like the Holland Tulip Festival or Douglas Halloween Parade, or take in an exciting live performance at one of the many local theaters. Or explore the surrounding water and land by kayaking, paddle boarding, or taking a hike at a local state park, wildlife sanctuary, or sand dune.

This is you enjoying the lake life of Pure Michigan to its absolute fullest and we think you’ll agree after staying at Lagom, that it’s not only a place but a feeling - one that will stay with you long after you leave.

Please Note:
  • The lower level only has 1 exit. Sleeping here is at your own risk.
  • Sleeping for 2 is accommodated by a queen air mattress that can be set up in the room of your choosing.
  • The home theater has a Roku set up to stream all your favorite shows. You will need to use your own login for each of the apps (Netflix, Prime, Disney+, etc.). Cable TV separate from the streaming apps is not provided.
  • The wood-burning fireplace in the main-level living room is available in the winter months only.
  • The wood stove in the lower level is for decorative purposes only and is not available for use.
  • Bundles of wood are available for purchase at many area gas stations, grocery stores, and roadside stands.
  • This home receives water via a well. The water is filtered and softened, but will still be very different tasting and smelling than city water. If you have never experienced well water, we recommend bringing bottled water to drink. We caution you about washing white laundry here as the well water can sometimes leave an orange tinge.
  • This home is on a septic system. Please do not flush anything other than toilet paper.
  • The bluff overlooking Lake Michigan is quite steep in this area. Please take care when accessing the bluffside deck.
  • This home is tucked in the woods along the lake. It is common to see animals, mice, bats, and other vermin. The property is serviced monthly by a professional pest company, but sometimes vermin do sneak in. Please let us know right away if you see evidence of anything inside and we will send out pest control. No rate adjustments can be made for vermin in or around the house. Make sure to keep the doors closed at all times or the wildlife may let themselves in.

We intended to be "tourists" and had a list of places we wanted to go see, turns out we stayed here all day and loved every minute spent here, could sit out on the deck for hours. Bonus for us, we got to see the Northern Lights! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Such a great cabin, one of our favorites! Received check-in instructions via text; fast communication with the office. Cabin was lovely and clean. Great kitchen, fun decor, loved the hot tub and the wood burning fireplace, fire pit. We are a family of 4 and had way more room than we needed - one teenager stayed in the loft area (very cute) and loved the hammock, we stayed in the lower bedroom, other teen stayed on one of the bunk beds in the basement (which was a big hit, we couldnt get him out of there)...didnt even need the second bedroom. Enjoyed the deck and easy beach access. Piles of seating. Quiet, gorgeous street. About 15-20 minutes in between Saugatuck and South Haven, nice location. Be sure to get food for the fridge, but there is a good little local convenience store about a 5 minute drive away. Comfortable beds and pillows, plenty of blankets, good wifi. Everyone was so happy with the cabin; we want to come back!

We had the BEST weekend spent relaxing by the water, eating dinners on the deck, enjoying the hot tub, and playing games in the media room. I would definitely come back to visit here again and again! The views were spectacular.

Our family had a great time at Lagom! The cabin is cozy, clean, and the updated bathrooms are super nice. The location is amazing with a fantastic view of the lake. Getting to see a storm roll in from the lake was so cool to see! Weve already been thinking about planning another trip!

Lagom is a log home nestled amongst the trees overlooking Lake Michigan. It was perfect for me and 6 adult children. The covered porch with hot tub was cozy when it rained, the overlook deck provided beautiful views of Lake Michigan and sun sets. The home was clean, comfortable and a wonderful additional vacation to our log cabin on Lake Huron. The immaculate kitchen had all the necessary and extra appliances. The grill, hot tub, bathrooms and bedrooms very clean. The range of board games, cards and home theater provided opportunities for entertainment when we werent enjoying the fire pit, beach and talking on the porch. Although we had beach towels and shower soap, some people may need to remember to pack those items. We plan to book a vacation for next year. Lagom provided just what we needed for children coming from Chicago and different areas of Michigan, with all of us being to enjoy time together witho

This place was peaceful with beautiful views and unique cabin decor. Exactly as pictured with lots of character but still had a modern feel. Cozy and cleana balance that is becoming of a Lagom! We found it easy to check-in and check-out and the host was very responsive when needs came up (had to clarify where the beach towels were and then needed to reset the breaker to use the oven, but that was easy and nothing they could have really done to avoid it.) The beds were very comfortable and the theater room was a nice touch for relaxing after a day around town or sun-bathing on the shoreline. Also no issues with the beach access. It was safe and simple to use.

Cutest Airbnb Ive stayed in! Super close to both Saugatuck and South Haven but loved that it was a peaceful location to go back to after being around those populated areas each day. The property being right on lake Michigan makes it so tranquil, especially when enjoying the hot tub at sunset. Would highly recommend if you are looking to enjoy the Michigan coast!

We couldnt have asked for a better place! Unique cabin on the lake was so relaxing for our family of 4. The owners did such a great job with the remodel to make this place cozy and comfortable. Perfect sunsets from the hot tub on the back porch. Extremely easy access to the water with the new landing at the bottom of the stairs down to the lake. Even though we spent a lot of time relaxing at the cabin, its also close to plenty of entertainment - we did local breweries, orchards, and went into Saugatuck to walk around their harbor. Cant wait to go back!!

The property was gorgeous and looked as pictured. Check in and directions were clear. The cabin was warm and cozy for the winter months. Music was on when we arrived and there were plenty of little details to appreciate. The staff was accommodating of all needs, and even gave me a card and bottle of Chardonnay for my birthday. This was a very sweet touch. Loved the hot tub and there was plenty of cool things to do. I highly recommend walking down to the beach area! We loved the choice of books at the property as well :) I would book again.
